Orthodontic Emergencies!!!
Problems can occur during your orthodontic treatment. Below are some suggestions to temporarily solve common orthodontic emergencies. However, if any of these emergencies occur, it is very important that you call our office to notify Dr. DeLuke and the Staff of what has occured, If the office is closed and you are not in discomfort, please leave a message and a Team Member will return your call when we return to the office. If the office is closed and you are in pain, leave a message as directed by the automated attendant and Dr. DeLuke will return your call.

| Loose band or bracket |
Contact our office. If still attached to the wire, leave it in place. If it is uncomfortable, place wax on it.

| Loose Wire |
Try to put the wire back in place with tweezers. If that is not possible, clip wire behind last tooth to which it is securely attached using clean nail clippers or clean pliers. If it is uncomfortable, place wax on over the sharp end of the wire. |

| Poking Wire |
Try to push the sharp end down with an eraser or a spoon. If it is still uncomfortable, place wax over the sharp end of the wire and contact our office. |

|
| Lost Elastic or Metal Tie |
Contact our office - it may or may not be necessary to see you prior to your next scheduled visit. |
| |
|
| Headgear Does Not Fit |
Call office to schedule an appointment to see the doctor. |
| |
|
| Tooth Soreness |
Take Advil or Tylenol as prescribed. |
| |
|
| Tissue Soreness |
Warm salt water rinses three times a day. If soreness worsens or persists for more than 5-7 days, contact our office. |

|
| Loose Seperator/Spacer |
Call the office to schedule to have the spacer(s) reinserted. |
| |
|
| Loose Appliances |
Contact our office immediately. Place wax on any sharp areas. |

If you feel you are unable to handle a problem on your own, please call us as soon as possible. Remember, absolutely no chewing gum, sticky foods or hard foods. Avoid chewing on pens, pencils and fingernails as well.
