What is Recall/Observation?
What does it mean to be placed on Recall/Observation?
A patient is placed on recall when he/she is not yet in need of orthodontic treatment. This does not mean that no orthodontic problems exist; it simply means that Dr. DeLuke has determined that now is not the optimal time to correct the problem(s).
Why did Dr. DeLuke recommend no treatment at this time?
Dr. DeLuke uses his knowledge in craniofacial and dental growth and development to determine the best time to initiate treatment on a patient. There are some orthodontic problems that should be corrected at a young age and others that can wait to be treated until the patient has lost all of his/her baby teeth. It is always our goal, and in the patient’s best interest, to achieve the optimal result in the shortest period of time.
How frequently are patients on Recall typically evaluated?
It depends upon the nature of the orthodontic problem(s), and how closely Dr. DeLuke will need to monitor the patient’s growth and development. Some patients are evaluated every few months, while others can go as long as two years between evaluations. Either way, Dr. DeLuke will let you know how far apart your child’s visits should be.
Does it mean braces will not be necessary?
Again, placing a patient on Recall/Observation does not mean that orthodontic treatment is not necessary. It does, however, mean that the patient is not in need of treatment at this time. Dr. DeLuke will update you on the patient’s status at each appointment, and notify you when the patient is ready to begin orthodontic treatment.
Is there a fee for Recall/Observation Appointments?
As a courtesy, there is no fee for the Recall/Observation appointments. However, if an x-ray needs to be taken, there may be a fee for the image.
